From: Dr.Charles Moser,
Somewhere on a beach in Florida
Not much compares to working in a space the size of a tennis ball through an opening the size of a 50 cent piece.
Add to that, the patient is awake and our average time in the chair is well over an hour.
The sounds are terrible. Pain or not, the sensation is like nails on a chalkboard.
We live and die over 1/2 a millimeter.
You like smells?
We got smells.
Burning tooth structure.
Bonding agents and of course the Eugenol.
And let’s not forget the cost.
Dental insurance resembles nothing like insurance. It’s simply financial aide.
And, we are all trying to be different and stand out to our customers.
Then come the interruptions...
All day long:
Can we buy more “C” fold towels.
The lab is on the phone.
The imaging machine is not functioning properly...
Everything I had worked to build could be taken away as soon as I took my foot off the gas pedal.
Yet it all seemed very normal to me and my colleagues as we discussed the hardships of dentistry and business.
It makes you almost want to throw in the towel and sell everything.. (Over risking things like divorce or bankruptcy.)
What if I just told my team
to make any decision they wanted..
..as long as it was under $500?
Just do it!
Decide: Yes or No.
I don’t even want to know about it.
Crazy you say?
Nope.
INSANE is what it was!
Working at the chair was uninterrupted.
I was able to focus,
and be with my patients.
Very few phone calls came my way.
More importantly,
things actually improved:
My team was ecstatic.
They felt empowered.
Could make decisions.
Knew they were important and valued.
And didn’t have to talk to me.
Empowerment was the first leadership skill I learned and gave to my team.
If your story is anything like mine,
then guess what:
YOU are the bottleneck.
This makes your team unable
to be useful to you.
This type of operation makes it nearly impossible to scale.
And on a long enough timeline...
Disaster Is Certain.
But don’t feel bad..
You’re actually not alone.
In the hundreds of Practice Owners I've spoken to..
Virtually everyone shares these exact experiences!
This is simply accepted as the standard culture
